Johan Hansen

Johan is senior research international comparison of health systems at Nivel. Internationally, he has been coordinating Nivel activities in a number of international networks and collaborations. His main research interests are health services and health systems with a particular focus on the organisation of health and care services, the transferability and upscaling of such services and the relationships between health services research and policy making including priority setting of HSR. At national level, he among others conducts health care organisation and health workforce research, including task shifting, collaboration and trust relations between health care professionals and the execution of health workforce planning models. In addition, he is involved in studies addressing the uptake of public health and health service innovations into the national health care system.

Highlighted project activities:

  • 2019: daily coordinator of the EUHealthSupport consortium, as Single Framework Contract for the provision of support services for managing expert groups in the field of (public) health
  • 2017-2019: coordinator of a support action on Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) and Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in Slovenia, funded by the Structural Reform Support Service (SRSS)
  • 2016 - 2019: scientific officer and member of the management team of the Horizon 2020 funded TO-REACH project (Transfer of Organisational innovations for Resilient, Effective, equitable, Accessible, sustainable and Comprehensive Health Services and Systems, coordinated by ISS, Italy)
  • 2016-2019: coordinator of the EPHORT consortium, as Multiple Framework contract to support the implementation of the EU Health Programme (2014-2020) through health reports
  • 2015 - 2019: coordinator of NIVEL’s status as WHO Collaborating Centre for Primary Health Care
  • 2011 - 2019 coordinator of the international network HSR-Europe
  • 2015-2016 project member of the CC4HCA project (Core Competences of Healthcare Assistants in Europe (funded by the European Commission Health Programme, 2015-2017)
  • 2009-2011: project coordinator of the FP7 funded HSREPP project (Health Services Research into European Policy and Practice, coordinated by NIVEL)
