BESt practices In care trajectories of persons with DEmentia (BESIDE 1)

Duration: 2015 - 2018

Background
People with dementia and their family carers often go through a long and intensive process, from the first signs of dementia until nursing home admission or death. The care and support services for people with dementia vary between regions.

Aims
Gaining insight in how do the care trajectories of people with dementia and their family carers proceed.
Gaining insihgt in the regional differences in care trajectories that affect the quality and costs of dementia care

Methods
NIVEL Zorgregistraties contains data collected routinely in health care and includes data of about 400 general practices. By combining these data with the data of regional dementia networks and data of insurers, the differences between regions in quality and costs of care can be compared and 'best practices' in dementia care trajectories can be described. In addition, the researchers will examine regional characteristics to explain differences in care trajectories.

Results
1.Insight into the quality and costs of care trajectories of people with dementia and their family carers, and into the regional differences thereby
2.Insight into how relevant existing care registrations can be linked
