Monitoring the specialty choices of doctors in training and their future career; a 2-year cohort study

The specialty choices of doctors in training determine the availability of different type of doctors in the near future. Monitoring how these choices are driven is highly relevant to eventually influence career choices and to avoid mismatches between demand and supply of certain specialists.
- What determines the specialty and career choice of doctors in training?
- How do specialty and career preferences differ over time and during medical training?
- What can educations and policy makers learn from this cohort study to eventually change the career support and coaching of medical students?
In 2 years, a cohort of current doctors in training is set-up through a baseline questionnaire. The year after, this group is re-queried and new cohorts are added to the target group.
Insight in how choices of doctors in training are determined will enable policies to eventually influence career choices and to avoid mismatches between demand and supply of certain specialists.
