ORANGE-FORCE: oral and general healthcare for older people

Duration: Apr 2022 - Dec 2024

ORANGE-FORCE officially stands for 'ORal ANd GEneral health For OldeR people’s CarE'.

Background: project of the ORANGEHealth Consortium
All seven Dutch educational institutions for oral healthcare and dentistry have joined forces in the Public Private Partnership ORANGEHealth. In addition to teaching, they conduct research and provide care. They initiate the multi-year ORANGEHealth program in which they, together with public and private parties in the Netherlands, are shaping the future of (oral) care and (oral) health, with special attention to prevention, the right care in the right place, coordination and professional collaboration with other organizations and attention for vulnerable groups. The consortium gives concrete content to the frequently heard call to action for better collaboration between oral care and general healthcare.

Kickstart project 'ORANGE-FORCE
In the kickstart project 'ORANGE-FORCE' (ORal ANd GEneral health For OldeR people’s CarE) the ORANGEHealth Consortium collaborates with companies, general practitioners and primary care providers, more than 40 oral healthcare practices, supported by professional associations and patients. ORANGE-FORCE focuses on the group of older people at risk of frailty, systemic, chronic and oral diseases. If recognized early, health complications can be postponed and (costs) even avoided while increasing quality of life.

Research lines:
1. A field lab to monitor oral and general health, test and validate diagnostic tools aiming at collaboration with other healthcare providers and selection of right interventions.
2. Making (oral) data available and using this information to improve care by connecting patient information between oral health practices and primary care practices.
3. Measuring and monitor the oral ecosystem to compare clinical symptoms and oral health analyses.

The economic impact of ORANGE-FORCE will be significant. Current and future business partners will benefit from the final and intermediate results. Innovations will generate an economic return (jobs, investments, income) for the Netherlands. ORANGE-FORCE innovations are also expected to reduce (growth in) healthcare spending. The societal impact is extremely valuable primarily for older persons to maintain a "healthy" situation in their home environment.
