Quality of life of family members of people with disabilities

Duration: May 2019 - May 2020

In healthcare it is usually about the people who are ill or have a disability. In recent years there has been increasing attention for their family members and loved ones. We investigate how family members experience their life and why they experience their life as good or less good. Sometimes they live at home with the person with a disability and sometimes the person with a disability lives in an institution. There are many factors that influence the quality of life of those close to them. We ask family members about their daily lives, such as their work, relationships with other people, leisure time and about the person with a disability. In this way we hope to find out whether there are groups of family members who are doing well and who are not doing well. And we examine in which areas they feel facilitated and in which areas they experience obstacles. We can then advise policymakers and professionals on support that helps them improve the quality of their lives.
