Natural Language Processing is promising for deriving information on activities of daily living from unstructured notes in electronic health records

In electronic health records, information about a person’s ability  to perform daily activities - like walking, feeding, dressing, personal hygiene, and toileting - are often recorded in unstructured notes. Our review provides insight into how ‘natural language processing’, a relatively new and rapidly advancing big data analytical technique, can extract valuable insights from these notes.
