Ronald Batenburg appointed Professor of Health workforce and organisation studies.

Ronald Batenburg has been appointed to the position of Professor by special appointment of health workforce and organisation studies at the Radboud University Faculty of Social Sciences starting from 15 May 2017.

Batenburg has been working at the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL) in Utrecht since 2009, as a program leader in Health Workforce and Organization Studies Health Care. He is concerned with the availability of sufficient health professionals in the future: what solutions are there for possible shortages in the future? What is the role of ICT, innovation and the changing organization of care in this regard, and how do health education programs meet the changing care demand?

The chair will connect with the research of the section Sociology and Social Cultural Research within the Radboud Social Cultural Research Research Institute. Health care as a sector, social domain and social field offers many opportunities for widening and enriching sociological research and education.

Prof. Batenburg will also teach in the social sciences and supervise students within the sociology Master Policy and Applied Social Research. The collaboration with researchers of the Radboud Center for Social Sciences, linking between science and practice, will also give a new push to the topics of health and health care.

Ronald Batenburg (Utrecht, 1964) studied Sociology at the Utrecht University and obtained his PhD in 1991 from  the University of Groningen. Subsequently, he worked as a researcher at the Social Cultural Planning Bureau and Utrecht University, and as assistant/associate professor at Tilburg University, Radboud University and Utrecht University.
