Main results of the monitoring of the influenza vaccination coverage in 2011 (scope: 68 general practices with 259.348 listed patients):
- 30.0% of the practice population was identified as target population.
- Vaccination rate in the target population dropped from 68.% in 2010 to 65.7% in 2010 which covers 19.7% of the practice population.
- The vaccination rate was 78.7% for people with diabetes mellitus, 77.1% for people with cardiovascular diseases, and 69.8% for people with lung disease.
- 20.1% of the practice population was identified as being at risk due to their age (60 years or older), the
vaccination rate in this group was 71.3%.
- The vaccination rate was 55.7% for people with only one risk indication, and increased to 78.1% for
people with two or more risk indications.
- The decrease in coverage concerns mainly the age of 60 to 65 years: it dropped from 63.2% in 2010 to

Monitoring the flu vacconation coverage, as part of the National Flu Prevention Program
Each year in autumn, people at high risk of complications from influenza receive an invitation to the flu shot from their general practitioner. Nivel closely monitors the vaccination coverage each year. The monitor is conducted by Nivel on behalf of the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
