The duration of dementia care in the Netherlands and factors influencing care programmes
Dementia is associated with a long disease duration and a high burden of care. This has a major impact on the person with dementia, on their loved ones and on the care system. On the basis of routinely recorded health data we describe the duration and content of care trajectories of patients with dementia, starting from time the diagnosis was first recorded in primary care, via nursing home admissions to end of life. This can support the planning of timely care and improve the understanding of - often long - dementia care programmes.
