EPHORT: Action Plan on Childhood Obesity, implementation of a European research project, 2016-2018

Duration: Nov 2016 - Dec 2018

Background
The Action Plan on Childhood Obesity has the overarching goal of halting the rise in overweight and obesity in children and young people (0-18 years) in the EU by 2020.

Aim
This study provides an overview of the state of implementation of the Action Plan on Childhood Obesity both at EU and national level.

Method
Data collection will mainly be carried out through our contacts in relevant networks, such as the WHO Regional Office in Europe and the EPHORT network of NIVEL, EPHA and RIVM. We will list prevalence rates of obesity per country in 2010 and 2016 as well as predictions for 2020.
Furthermore, we will list the policies and activities undertaken or planned as defined in the Action Plan.

Result
Recommendations for the period 2017 to 2020 of the Action Plan will be formulated, both at EU and national level. This enables EU Member States, the European Commission and wider stakeholders to focus their activities in those areas where gaps or lacks in the implementation of the Action Plan are identified.
