Rating and review platforms in OECD countries
Duration: Sep 2025 - Jan 2026
Background
Insight into the quality of care is important within the Dutch healthcare system. Information about this can be used for various purposes, such as learning and improvement, healthcare purchasing and patient choice. It is important to measure quality of care from different perspectives, and in this study we are particularly interested in the perspective of the patient / client.
Aim
The aim of this research is to explore methods to ensure the reliability of patient assessment platforms, taking into account the interests of the users and the interests of the assessed healthcare providers.
The research answers the following research questions:
- In which OECD countries are rating and review platforms aimed at healthcare providers and care providers used?
- What are the characteristics of these review platforms in terms of content, reliability, organisation and use?
- What lessons can be learned from this for the various stakeholders?
Project design
Desk research is used to investigate which OECD countries have an active patient rating and review platform. In-depth research is carried out under a selection. We investigate the embedding of the patient rating and review platform in the healthcare system. We focus on (in)directly involved parties, content, reliability and use of the platforms. To this end, we set up a questionnaire survey among representatives of the (in)directly involved parties. Based on the results of the questionnaire, we plan in-depth interviews, in which we focus in particular on the development possibilities of the patient platforms and their relevance to the Dutch situation.
Result
The results of the research are reported in a public report. This report provides an overview and detailed description of rating platforms in different countries.
