In 2021, the second campaign of the pneumococcal vaccination program for adults (NPPV) was held. People born in 1948 to 1952 were invited for vaccination.

Main results of the monitoring of the pneumococcal vaccinatio coverage in 2021:
- The pneumococcal vaccine coverage Increase in 2021
- Of the tartget group 74.1% was vaccinated; this is higher than in 2020, when people born in 1941 to 1947 were invited and 73.0% were vaccinated.
- The vaccine coverage did not differ much between the years of birth and was between 72% and 74% in all years of birth.
- The vaccine coverage was slightly higher in women (74.4%) than in men (73.8%).

National Pneumococcal Vaccination Adults Program (NPPV)
The National Pneumococcal Vaccination Adults Program (NPPV) began in 2020. Annually, people from certain birth years are invited for pneumococcal vaccination, with everyone between the ages of 60 and 79 invited for revaccination once every five years. As with the National Flu Prevention Program, Nivel closely monitors the vaccination coverage each year. The monitor is conducted by Nivel on behalf of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
