Activities
I am trained as a psychologist and work as a researcher and as a general practice mental health professional (GP-MHP). My research focuses on general practice care for mental health problems and the function of the GP-MHP. Research into this type of care is useful, because general practice is the first point of contact for many people with mental health problems. I believe it is important that, in this setting in particular, careful attention should be paid to the individual, their context and their sense of meaning, and that mental health problems are medicalized and normalized as much as possible. This is both helpful for individuals themselves, and necessary given the scarcity of care resources. Our research involves, for example, identifying who visits general practices with mental health problems and what type of care they receive.

Eerder heb ik bij het Nivel promotieonderzoek gedaan naar de organisatie van de huisartsenzorg voor psychische problemen en de opkomst van de functie van de POH-GGZ. Mijn proefschrift werd genomineerd voor de Public Health Proefschriftprijs en de CaRe Award (eervolle vermelding).
