The possible west-east spread of influenza across Europe during the influenza seasons of the previous few years was mapped in 2004 using data from the European Influenza Surveillance Scheme (EISS) database. A method used in Japan has now been applied to European data for the 2004-5 season, and the results echo the pattern arising from the previous EISS analysis.
