PanCare4AYA: Patient-centred, evidence-based late effect screening and follow-up care of survivors of adolescent and young adult cancer
Duur: apr 2025 - mrt 2030
Background
Survivors of adolescent or young adult (AYA) cancer are at high risk for developing late physical and mental health effects. Standardised survivorship care offered more than five years after the cancer diagnosis is currently lacking in most of Europe.
Aim
The PanCare4AYA project aims to develop, test and scale-up evidence-based screening methods for the early detection of late effects in AYA cancer survivors as part of Survivorship Care to improve survivors’ empowerment, health and quality of life.
Method
An international evidence- and consensus-based guideline for AYA cancer Survivorship Care will be developed. Eligible survivors from 20 clinics in 11 European countries will be invited to participate in the PanCare4AYA Cancer Survivor Screen programme. Based on reported symptoms and screening results, a personalised Survivor Care Plan (SCP) will be developed and guideline-based Survivorship Care will be provided according to the SCP. Feasibility, outcomes and costs of the programme will be evaluated through a multi-centre pre-post evaluation study.
Result
The project will deliver the international evidence- and consensus-based guideline for AYA cancer Survivorship Care. The guideline-based PanCare4AYA Cancer Survivor Screen programme is expected to improve AYA cancer survivors’ empowerment, physical and mental health and quality of life. The project will also update existing digital Survivorship Care tools and further develop peer support. The project also includes the assessment of barriers and facilitators for implementing the PanCare4AYA Survivor Screen programme and develop freely available materials to support sustainable maintenance and scale-up of the programme in other clinics in future.
