This article is about the psychometric characteristics of the Dutch translation of the Gross Motor Function Measure
(GMFM). It describes the reliability of the instrument. The article "Gross Motor Function Measure" (GMFM): a validity
study of the Dutch translation focusses on the responsiveness of the GMFM. Aim: to investigate the reliability of the Dutch translation of the GMFM. The GMFM is a criterion-referenced instrument constructed to evaluate the development of motor skills in children with cerebral palsy. The instrument measures changes in fundamental gross motor skills over time. The GMFM can also be of great value for evaluating physiotherapeutic interventions for children with cerebral palsy. Methodes: thirty-four children with cerebral palsy took part in the study. Both the test-retest and the interobserver reliability were assessed by means of intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Results: Both the test-retest and the interobserver reliability of the Dutch translation of the GMFM proved to be good (ICC=0.99). Conclusion: The reliability of the Dutch translation of the GMFM is good. The instrument can be used to measure changes in fundamental gross motor skills over time in children with cerebral palsy. The test also can be used to evaluate physiotherapeutic interventions for these children.
